Creating Systemic Change in Organizations: Moving Businesses & Organizations toward NVC Consciousness
Posted August 25th, 2008 by CCCCLocation(s)
NVC Training Institute's Seven Day Training or equivalent
Over the years we've had a lot of people in our trainings express
interest & excitement about bringing NVC into businesses &
organizations, and now we have developed a training to support those
who are venturing into this territory.
With his background in owning & managing small businesses, Gregg has focused
the last seven years on facilitating NVC consciousness in
organizations—first in his own 19-year-old business, and then as a
consultant to a variety of businesses & nonprofits including a
3-1/2 year engagement at a company that does pharmaceutical studies.
Susan brings her 15+ years of experience of NVC, along with specific
engagements of bringing NVC into the British Columbia provincial
government and General Motors.
The intention within our work is to foster the fullness of NVC consciousness—the living energy
of needs—such that we not only impact the human relationships within
the organization but we systemically transform the organizational
processes, strategies and structures to be in harmony with this
consciousness.
Our intention within this workshop is to:
- Share our experience of NVC as a process for organizational development
- Develop
NVC skills & consciousness, beyond the intrapersonal &
interpersonal, to encompass groups of people with a common mission
& aim - Learn to introduce NVC to people within businesses & organizations through inspiring rather than selling
- Expand the mission of any organization so that it becomes a "living organization"
- Introduce Dynamic Self-Governance (Sociocracy) as a framework to hold NVC consciousness
- Experience
circles as the core organizational unit and explore the dynamics within
those circles that fulfill the needs of the participants and the needs
of the whole - Invite hands-on practice of essential
NVC organizational skills in facilitation of meetings, expressing &
hearing disagreement without blame, mediation and coaching - Explore
how common processes—e.g. meetings, employee reviews, hiring,
terminations of employment, email communications—are transformed to
create an environment of authenticity, connection & mutual
interdependence within the organization - Witness—and learn the skills of—a new leadership that emerges in living organizations
- Learn the crucial role of systemic feedback for a living organization to thrive
Intended Participants
- People who want to integrate NVC into their organizations (businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, community groups, etc.)
- Consultants who want to facilitate the integration of NVC into client organizations
- Certified & non-certified NVC trainers who want to facilitate the integration of NVC into client organizations

Nonviolent Communication in Schools and Kindergartens
24th -26th October 2008 in Stockholm
This event offers an opportunity for everybody who is working actively in education or being interested in sharing NVC in schools and kindergartens, to deepen the NVC consciousness and strengthen their nonviolent communication skills.
For three days we will practice communication that fosters compassion, supports cooperation and stimulates inner motivation. We will explore how we can enrich our work in schools and kindergartens with nonviolent values and the NVC model.
Imagine a school where children say, "Bullying is not our style¨
because they have been treated with respect and understanding.
We will share experiences from a school like that, Skarpnäcks free school, that demonstrate how to sustain a safe and creative learning environment with an empathic attitude and a real sense of inclusion, where children learn and work from willingness and where there are no punishments or rewards.
The 23rd of October is a separate open visiting day at Skarpnäcks free school . For participants in this workshop, the 23rd is included in the workshop fee. On the 24th we will share the school facility with teachers and students at Skarpnäcks free school as an extra live experience.
The aim of the training is for participants to
- practice how to implement NVC in daily school and kindergarten life – in meetings, when making rules and when handling conflicts
- be able to contribute to school development based on dialogue and cooperation supported by NVC skills.
Participants will practice
- expressing honesty, clearly showing your values and beliefs
- empathic listening in different conversations
- when and how to use force to protect values and needs with children
- the balance between individual needs and the needs of the group
- expressing appreciation in ways that contribute to self confidence and growth

Short info about Skarpnäcks free school, Stockholm
Skarpnäcks free school started with an initiative from a group of parents .They were worried about how their seven-year-olds already were loosing their desire to learn and go to school. These parents wanted a different kind of school for their children—one based on democratic principles outlined in our national curriculum and respectful compassionate interactions, a place where their children could be more active in their learning and free to express themselves.
In 1998 teachers and parents together started to build a school from inclusion, with partnership relations, where students work from willingness, without punishments and rewards. Nonviolent Communication has been the main inspiration and guidance in this work. Now we have 80 students, age between 6 and 15, and we celebrate rewarding results after 10 years of exploring new, more life-affirming ways to be in school and educate our children.
